“The SLP Song”

“The SLP Song”

From an early age, I felt the call to teach…  It was something that I was good at and also something I loved. At 15, I landed my first job as a soccer coach & camp counselor to kids ages 7-12. It was fun, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. It was easy, in the sense that it didn’t feel like “work” & simultaneously the longest, most exhausting day I had ever experienced in my life.  Although, I’m not sure I knew it at the time… but, I believe that is the ideal job/career. To be clear, I’m not saying that teaching/coaching is the ideal career for everyone… no, no, no… I’m looking at you sophomore English teacher! It is something that your passionate about, something you love doing, something you’re damn good at, something that you would probably do for free anyway, something that makes you smile every time someone asks you what you do for a living, something that you work tirelessly at knowing that all the hard work and long hours you put in, in the end will fulfill you in a way that is incomparable. This is how I feel about teaching. This is how I feel about making music. And, Every once in a while… I get to do both J !!!  …This is one of those times...  This is a song I wrote, with the most original of titles… “The SLP Song” a song about teaching English to kindergartners in Korea, while singing it with em’.

“The SLP Song”

I started with ABC…
Then came 123…
Next came the silent E...
and that one was tough for me.

I learned the rules of my school
And how my pencil is a tool
All about Rhyming words,
nouns, adjectives and verbs.

And tomorrow I will be,
Bilingual, you will see…
Mom and Dad are proud of me…
And I love it at SLP!
I love it at SLP!

Everyday I study hard…
Knowing, one day I’ll go far…
With hard work I believe,
I’ll achieve all my dreams

So teacher, teacher…
Please help me to succeed
Show me patience and love
Help me earn my degree

And tomorrow I will be,
Bilingual, you will see…
Mom and Dad are proud of me…
And I love it at SLP!
I love it at SLP!
